Tuition - Terms of Service

Our terms of service are outlined below. Please note that we work based on mutual trust - we never ask for payment until you are happy with our agreed lesson plan and we aim to ensure that you receive an excellent service from us.

Us/We/ - The company

Tutor - A tutor who is nominally affiliated with us and we have recommended.

Student - The person who will receive tuition.

You/Client/Customer - The person who is over 18 years old and who is paying for the tuition.


1. General Terms

1.1) Our lessons are arranged in advance and payment must be received before any lesson can take place. We offer discounts for a block of lessons purchased in advance - please see our prices page.

1.2) Any additional agreements or arrangements made during correspondence with us must be adhered to by us and you. We keep a record of all correspondence and advise you to do the same in case of any disputes.

1.3) All of our prices are based on 1-to-1 tuition. Our distance learning service works best with a single student - if you would like us to teach more than one student at a time please contact us.

1.4) You must only make a payment once a tutor has been assigned to you and a timetable for lessons has been agreed. Once payment is received by us then lessons can commence as planned. If a payment is received before we have agreed upon a lesson timetable, and if we do not then agree upon a lesson timetable we will refund the money you have paid less a 10% administrative fee.

1.5) You must have a reliable broadband internet connection. We understand that there are often technical problems with internet connectivity which may sometimes result in a loss of connection with the tutor. We will always try to make up any  time missed due to internet connection, software or computer hardware faults, whether they are at your end or ours. We can also issue partial refunds (up to 100% of the amount paid for that session) for any genuine technical issues.

Please note that it may take a few minutes to connect to the tutor via Skype. Our tutors will always aim to be connected to Skype at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time of the lesson and we ask you to do the same if possible.


2. Cancellations and Service - Your Rights and Responsibilities

We understand that students nowadays are busy with after-school commitments and that cancellations are inevitable. Our cancellation policy is therefore straightforward and based on trust - we will always try to rearrange a lesson if you give us notice.

2.1) If you are cancelling a single lesson due to unforeseen circumstances you must notify us as soon as possible. Adequate notice for the cancellation of a single lesson is defined as such:

If adequate notice is not given you may still be charged for the missed lesson. We will always try to reschedule any lessons that are missed before charging for a missed session, though rearranging a session depends on the tutors availability and is at our discretion.

2.2) You have the right to cancel all lessons at any time for any reason. If you have received a discounted price for a "block booking", any lessons that have already taken place will not be refunded and will be charged at the non-discounted price. Prices are available here.

For example:

A customer purchases a block of 10 hours and pays £150 at the discounted rate (£15/hour) compared to the normal hourly rate (£20/hour).

If a total of 6 hours have been already taught - the cost of these 6 hours is based on the rate of £20/hour, equivalent to a total cost of £120. The refund payable to the customer is £30.

If a total of 9 hours have been already taught - the cost of these 9 hours is based on the rate of £20/hour, equivalent to a total cost of £180. The refund payable to the customer is £0, and while we will seek to recover the outstanding £30 in any legal way, we will refuse any further service until this issues has been resolved.

2.3) Occasionally tutors are unable to commit to a lesson due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. If a tutor is unable to deliver a lesson as planned we must give you at least 24 hours notice, otherwise the cost of that lesson will be refunded to you within 48 hours of the scheduled lesson time. We will always try to rearrange a lesson with you first.

You have the right to expect excellent service from us and our tutors.
If for any reason you are unhappy with our service please contact us immediately.

2.4) If you are unhappy with our service you must tell us immediately and after the first lesson. We may offer up to a 100% refund of the full amount of the lesson (though this is at our discretion). Any additional lessons that have been paid for will be entirely refunded. We must have a valid reason in order to offer a refund of the first lesson, and therefore this refund is dependent of you providing evidence to us as to why the lesson was unsatisfactory.


3. Your Responsibilities To Us

3.1) All lessons must be paid for in advance.

3.2) Before any scheduled lessons can take place you must provide us with the academic details of the student - we will specify what we need to know by email but generally we need to know their school year, subject(s), exam board etc. Once we have this information we will find an appropriate tutor and begin to develop a structured learning course and advise on specific subject areas that need focus.

3.3) You have a responsibility to ensure that the student completes any work set for them and that they are committed to the lessons. We cannot make any guarantees as to their academic progress.


4. Our Rights

4.1) We have the right to cancel any lessons for any reason provided that we give you at least 24 hours notice.

4.2) We reserve the right to decline our services to any customers and do not need to give any reason for this.

4.3) Any learning materials provided by the tutor are for the sole use of the student and must not be copied, reproduced or distributed in any way - our tutors work hard to prepare excellent learning materials and resources and any breach of this term could be classified as infringement of copyright or intellectual property.


5. Child protection and safety

All of our tutors are CRB checked (i.e., they possess an enhanced DBS check which is available on request), and are experienced in working with children under 18 years old.  

In most cases we recommend 1-to-1 tuition without parental supervision. If this could be an issue please contact us to discuss this.

Unlike many companies we actually encourage the use of video and audio recording software that is capable of recording the lessons and saving the video files to your computer. This allows any lessons to be viewed again at any time by the student, and also allows parents/guardians to assess the quality of the tuition sessions. Please contact us for more information. If you are planning to record a lesson, it is courteous to let the tutor know. You must not publish, copy or distribute any recorded lessons without permission from the tutor.

We follow the NSPCC guidelines for child protection and our policy is available on request. We take child safety very seriously. In the event of a disclosure (when a tutor is informed by the child of harmful or unlawful activity) we will immediately notify the relevant authorities. We also take any complaints from parents/guardians very seriously.
