Tuition and Academic/Professional Proofreading

Private Tuition

All of our tutors have experience in both 1-to-1 and classroom teaching, and are university graduates holding at least a 2:1 degree in a relevant field. We offer specialist GCSE tuition in Maths, Science and English - additional subjects may be available on request.

What is distance learning?

imgStructured distance learning is an effective way to teach. We offer face-to-face lessons with your own personal tutor. All you need for the lessons are a PC with a webcam and microphone (most laptops have these built in as standard) and a reliable internet connection. Our preferred software is Skype - it is simple to set up, reliable and secure, and best of all it's free.

We will also set up a dedicated email account for the student which will be used for sending homework and learning materials between the student and the tutor. Distance learning also offers greater flexibility and convenience, and you will receive the same excellent level of service at a much lower cost.

Another benefit of distance learning is the ability to digitally record videos of the lessons and save these on your PC - these can then be reviewed any time to look again at any topics that the student may not be clear on. Many tuition companies do not allow or encourage this. We believe that if using technology can benefit a student's education then there is no reason not to. Our tutors can advise you on which software is best for your needs and how to use it.

How do we teach?

imgWe understand that every student has different strengths and weaknesses. We can focus on specific topics or undertake a more detailed course on a particular subject - it depends entirely on the needs of the student.

A typical course for a GCSE student usually follows our procedure of assessment, instruction and consolidation:

Our first step would be to undertake a curriculum-based assessment from which we will evaluate which subject areas need the most work. Our assessments can be designed for any particular subject and student.

It's then all about building a strong foundation - we will always begin with ensuring that the fundamentals and core principals are understood before moving onto the more challenging topics. We will aim to cover the curriculum and teach in parallel with what they are studying at school.

Finally, we aim to reassess the student in order to judge our progress. We will create useful and concise revision notes and practise answering examination style questions in order to give the student the ability to apply their knowledge and improve their examination technique.

We also offer a by-post GCSE mock exam service - further details can be found here.

What do we teach?

We focus on core subjects at GCSE level:

Many of our tutors have expertise in additional subjects (History, Geography, Music, ICT, Design Technology/Engineering etc). We can also offer A Level tuition for some of these subjects - please enquire here.

Who do we teach?

boyOur tuition is aimed primarily at GCSE students, however we also offer tuition for pre-GCSE (ages 12-14) in order to build a strong foundation. We also offer adult learning for GCSEs, and can cover some A-level subjects and our tutors may also offer additional services at degree level - please contact us for more detail.

11+ Tuition?

Our tutors also have excellent experience in the 11+ grammar school entrance examinations, however we do not believe that distance learning is effective for 9-11 year olds. Instead we offer to provide our own specialist resources and instruction to parents. Our teaching resources are based on the actual examination questions from the past year (unlike the majority of 11+ teaching books available on the market which are very out-of-date and irrelevant). For more information please contact us.
